A chilly spring evening at Yate was bad enough but with 6 players stuck in traffic we kicked off late with only 9 players. However, against a team who were second from bottom we started positively by holding off any attacks until we could field a full 11 players.
Our best move of the half came when a through ball to Mo Bouaziz
gave him a chance at goal and although his shot beat the Yate
stand in keeper, it rebounded back off the post and to safety. With a nagging
wind and a very bumpy long grassed pitch there were always going to be mistakes,
but our ability to control and the pass the ball was second best quite often.
Despite this, our trio in defence of James Hurell Smith and Scott Gregory were playing well enough to
cover any errors. Midway through the first half though they could doing nothing
to stop a great turn and shot by the Yate Midfielder,
which caught the wind and just evaded Craig Francis in goal. Craig could only
finger tip into the top corner to put us 1-0 down which is how the score stood
at half time.
A few silly exchanges between the players
immediately after the whistle was calmly dealt with by the referee, but his
cause wasn’t helped as the usual involvement by parents fanned the flames even
further.
The second half was spent by Frys
chasing the game as we looked for the elusive equalizer. Despite plenty of
possession with many throw ins and corners we
ultimately failed to score, which meant we very
frustratingly lost the match 1-0. There were some good performances however, as
both Lewis Watt and Charlie Frampton played very well in attack supported well
by Mo, Danny McCarthy and Oli Randall in Midfield.
